"Into Alaska a Woman Came"
Join Major Marine Tours in Seward Alaska for a new and unique experience this summer on Resurrection Bay, Dinner Cruise Theater! The Alaska Nellie show is a historical, one-woman play that is set in Nellie Neal Lawing's trophy room at the townsite of Lawing, Alaska in 1949.
If you had come to this part of Alaska between 1925-1950, you would have heard of Nellie Neal Lawing. Traveling between Anchorage and Seward on the Alaska Railroad, you may have stopped at Lawing to listen to Nellie tell her tales and show off her trophies. You may even have purchased a signed copy of her autobiography and perhaps had a photo of yourself taken next to this famous Alaskan.
Nellie died at Lawing on May 10, 1956 while sitting in her favorite chair, surrounded by her precious memorabillia and trophies. With the coming of statehood in 1959, our expanded road systems, the 1964 Good Friday Earthquake, the oil boom, the Exxon-Valdez oil spill, and the tourism industry, Alaska Nellie has been mostly forgotten.
In this play, Nellie returns for an hour to entertain some Alaskans from Seward who join a group of tourists fresh off the train at Lawing. Imagine yourself joining in the fun!
